Will the Apple Watch 2 be twice as good?

Apple’s latest iPhone and iPad models are a well-worn tech tradition by now, but last year the company introduced a brand new product: the Apple Watch 2 .

It went on sale back in April 2015 following an announcement the previous September. And preceded by months of rumours and speculation before that.

Now the internet is awash with news of a brand new Apple Watch 2 that could be revealed as soon as March .

Apple, as usual, has remained tight-lipped on any news of a follow-up device but that hasn’t stopped the tech sites getting very excited about a next-generation smartwatch from Cupertino.

Apple Watch 2: Release date

The Apple Watch 2 could be announced in a matter of months

Sources speaking to Apple site 9to5Mac have suggested that the company will reveal – if not launch – the Apple Watch 2 in March 2016.

“Apple began to develop technologies destined for future Apple Watch models long before the first generation even shipped,” claims the site.

The tech giant usually launches its new phones in the second half of the year, so some experts have suggested an early reveal could balance it out nicely.

Apple is also holding its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, which could provide updates on new software running on the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch 2: Features

Any chance of Apple following the likes of Samsung or LG and give the Apple Watch 2 a circular face seem unlikely at the moment. A source speaking to GforGamesclaims there won’t be any change in screen size, shape or resolution.

One factor that could be improved is battery life. The first Apple Watch drew criticism over a need to charge it every night .

Whether it comes from software improvements or a physically bigger battery remains to be seen. Some rumours are suggesting the thickness of the screen will be reduced to make room for a bigger battery.

Apple Watch 2: Price

Apple’s gadgets are notoriously expensive

When it comes to iPhones, Apple usually keeps to specific price points – downgrading older models as new ones come through.

If it keeps the same policy (and sizings) for the Apple Watch 2, then the “Sport” model could debut at £299 for the 38mm model and £339 for the larger 42mm one.

That goes up to £479 for the 38mm for the standard version and £479 for the 42mm variant.

Either way, it’s a fair bet that – just like other Apple products – the second iteration of the “iWatch” will not be cheap.
